Mike DiGiacomo – Producer/Writer/Videographer

Mike is an award-winning journalist who began his career in 1997 at KOLN/KGIN in Lincoln, Nebraska as a sports reporter, first covering The University of Nebraska’s 5th National Championship run. Mike’s passion for storytelling pushed him to pursue more serious stories, venturing off to a career in news journalism. He spent time as a General Assignment News Reporter at KOLN before his move to the Omaha market for KETV. Mike was the Capital Bureau reporter for 7 years, covering the state legislature, the University of Nebraska/Lincoln, crime, and politics.

Mike has numerous Associated Press awards ranging from General News to Agriculture to Feature stories. Currently, Mike Co-Hosts The Morning Blend on KMTV in Omaha, NE. He’s also Vice President and co-owner of Best Card Payments, a local credit card processing company.

In addition to his career in broadcasting and the payment industry, Mike enjoys speaking at fundraising events for charitable organizations throughout the community. Some of those include the YMCA, The Stephen’s Center and the Autism Society of Nebraska.

Pete Soby – Producer/Videographer

In his twelve years of photojournalism, Peter Soby has won three Nebraska Photographer of the Year awards and two Edward R. Murrow awards. Most recently, he won a Murrow award for his documentary The Making of Illumina. He just completed a documentary, The Making of Imagine, the story of art being made at Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Peter Soby was also a member of the board of the National Press Photographer’s Association, as the Director of Region Nine. He was also on their Judiciary Committee from 2006 to 2009. Peter was President of the Nebraska News Photographer’s Association from 2000 to 2008.

He has a passion to educate, inspire and inform fellow photojournalist in the United States and all over the world. Peter is currently teaching at Iowa Western Community College and is the station manager of the campus television station, allowing him to educate future photojournalist and storytellers.

In addition to his work in local media at KETV and the Omaha World Herald, Peter has done a number of projects for independent companies in the United States, including, Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago, The Steier Group, The March Of Dimes and numerous others. Peter has also produced programming independently.

Jen Mandolfo Carey – Executive Producer

Jen Mandolfo Carey holds a masters degree in early childhood education. Currently, she teaches 3rd grade at Walnut Creek Elementary School in the Papillion-LaVista School District. Jen’s primary responsibilities in this documentary are to uncover the stories behind the stories, organize photo shoots, explore the varying personalities, and conduct logistical operations. Jen is well-connected in Omaha’s Italian community, and will be able to provide good background information and organizational skills. Jen is also responsible for much of the historic research on the project.
