Devoti Unveiled

Friday, August 9th, about 700 people showed up for the world Premiere of Devoti. The evening began with a cocktail hour with live music performed by Kathryn Bisanti & Mark Morello. As guests made their way in to the Witherspoon Concert Hall, the Santa Lucia Festival Band performed their familiar marches.

Dave Webber, the Master of Ceremonies, opened the evening with introductions of the production team and fundraising committee. Mike DiGiacomo, Jennifer Mandolfo Carey, and Pete Soby provided some brief remarks about the project. Guests were then shown the 95 minute documentary. Following the viewing, fans cheered, clapped to the music & delivered a standing ovation as the credits rolled.

Following the viewing, guests were treated to delicious, authentic Italian pastries from La Charlotte-Caniglia pastries.

Narrator Chosen

With 95% of the photography completed, the documentary is now being written by our talented writer Carrie Chambers. With the help of videographer Peter Soby, and much of the historical research completed by PJ Asta, Carrie has completed about 35% of the documentary.

As we navigate through this stage, it won’t be long before those words on paper get converted to a voice on screen. The documentary committee is honored that Mauro Fiore has graciously agreed to lend his voice to this project.

Mauro Fiore is an Oscar winning Cinematographer.  He was born in Marzi, Calabria and moved to the US with his family in 1971.He attended Palatine High School in Palatine, Illinois, and graduated in 1982. He went on to receive his B.A. from Columbia College Chicago in 1987.He is most notable for his work in the 2009 film Avatar for which he won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography at the 82nd Academy Awards.

Finally, a title! – DEVOTI

As the documentary begins to take shape, we’ve drawn upon some of the inspiration that flows from the camera reel. The documentary production team has finally settled on a name for the film. It’s title, DEVOTI. The title obviously translates to the English word, devotee. You will see that this word has great significance in the documentary. From the hills of Carlentini, to the corner of 6th & Pierce streets in Omaha, we can clearly see the devotion emitting through those communities.

Project Update

Just wanted to give you a brief update on the documentary project. Right now, our writers are continuing to finalize the first draft of the script. I’ve read through it, and it is the beginning of a very powerful story. The documentary is headed in the right direction. At this point all of our video has been shot. We are still doing some fact checking, and verifying some of the historical data that we’ve collected. It’s a very tedious process.

As soon as we get the script nailed down (hopefully early October), we’re going to hit the editing room. That’s when the documentary begins to breathe new life.

Our goal is to complete the documentary by mid to late March. We’ll then have a premiere in summer 2013.

We’ll keep you posted!!! Thanks!

Completion Date – UPDATE

This project has grown into something very compelling, and larger than any of us ever expected. We have attained the services of Curtis Grubb, a local sound engineer, to complete all the audio mixing and soundtrack. As we continue to write the documentary, it became apparent that we would not meet our expected launch date of June 2012. We have now pushed back the date of the documentary completion to Summer 2013. Thanks for all your support and excitement over its release!
